Painting the whole car is a separate project. Size, colour, parts that must be removed, preparation work and body damage all affect it. Ask for a written quote based on an inspection rather than extending a small-repair price to the whole vehicle.
What can a paint repair include?
Polishing or a light surface correction
If the mark is only in the clear coat and the colour layer is intact, painting may not be the first option. A paint shop or car-care service can assess whether polishing will improve it. Do not assume this from a photograph alone; depth and the feel of the edge matter.
Spot painting
Spot painting suits a small, contained paint defect. The work may include preparing the area, matching the colour, painting, clear-coating and finishing. The required finish and the panel’s location determine whether the blend can be made inconspicuous.
Painting the entire panel
A bumper, door or wing is often painted in full when the damage is wider or a uniform colour requires it. The panel’s size is only part of the price: removal, trim, sensors and preparation can add work.
Bodywork before painting
A dent, tear, crack or rust may require bodywork before paint. If the paint is intact, paintless dent repair may be possible; suitability can be confirmed only after inspection. Do not cover rust with a touch-up pen and hope it stops—the shop should assess the repair area first.
When should you contact a paint shop promptly?
Arrange an assessment soon if the paint is broken and metal or rust is visible, or if a bumper is cracked or a dented panel has exposed paint damage. A quick assessment helps contain the damage before dirt and moisture build up.
A small mark limited to the clear coat is usually less urgent. Even then, ask about the correct method before sanding or painting it yourself: the wrong preparation can make the repair larger.

Photos support a preliminary estimate; the shop may confirm the price only after seeing the car.
Ask the quote to state:
- whether the shop will paint locally or the entire panel;
- whether sanding, primer, colour matching, clear coat and finishing are included;
- whether panel removal, refitting and bodywork are included;
- what happens if rust or other additional work is found;
- the estimated completion time and what the warranty covers.
