Oil Change Cost in Finland: Price, Interval and What’s Included
You cannot determine the exact cost of an oil change from the car make alone. The required oil specification, oil volume, filter and agreed work all affect the total. Ask for a quote tied to your registration number or exact model, rather than relying on an advertised starting price.

Quick answer: how much does an oil change cost?
Published examples show why an exact vehicle-based quote matters. In Öljypiste’s list, an older Fiat petrol car is shown at €80–110, while a Ford Transit Custom 2.0 EcoBlue example is €195–270. These examples do not describe all cars of the same make or prices at other garages. Check exactly what the quote includes.

These are not a national price statistic. They illustrate the scale of the service and why oil specification, quantity and the work included should be checked before booking.
What makes up the price?
A comparable quote states at least the following:

The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority, KKV, recommends agreeing the work, parts, price and procedure for additional work in the work order. If the agreed figure is a price estimate, KKV’s guidance says the garage may not exceed it by more than 15% unless otherwise agreed.
Fixed price, estimate or “from” price?
- A fixed price is an agreed total for the specified work. Ask for the scope in writing.
- A price estimate is an estimate for that work. The 15% rule applies to such an estimate unless you have agreed otherwise.
- A “from” price does not tell you whether it fits your car or which oil, filter and labour are included.
When should engine oil be changed?
Follow your car’s own service programme first. The interval may be based on time, mileage or the car’s service reminder. There is no single interval that fits every engine.
Öljypiste’s service guidance mentions at least one year or 10,000–20,000 km. That is one provider’s general guidance, not a replacement for your owner’s manual. If the manual gives a different interval or separate severe-use instructions, follow those.
Check the maintenance programme for:
- the date or mileage of the next oil change;
- the required oil approval, not just the viscosity number;
- whether an oil change is a standalone job or part of a scheduled service;
- whether the change will be recorded in the paper or digital service history.
What does a normal oil change include?
The old engine oil is usually drained, the oil filter replaced, the correct new oil added and the level checked. Garage practice varies: resetting the service light, a visual inspection or a service-history entry may be included or agreed separately.

Do not choose engine oil by price or by a large number on the container. The owner’s manual or service programme specifies the required approval, viscosity and often the fill quantity. Give the garage these details, or your registration number, so it can check the requirement.

When is an oil change not enough?
An oil change is planned maintenance, not fault diagnosis. If the red oil pressure warning light is on, the engine makes an unusual noise or oil is leaking, follow the owner’s manual and contact a garage or roadside assistance. Do not assume a normal oil change will solve the fault.
